Our campsite

Barrow Campsite Nairn is situated on an arable farm in the Highlands of Scotland, on the banks of the river Nairn. It is within cycling distance of the historic town of Nairn and a short drive to the city of Inverness. It is overlooking the rolling hills and only a few miles from spectacular beaches. Our touring campsite and glamping pods are dotted about this wonderful and secluded landscape surrounded by natural and arable land. The river ‘Nairn’ can be accessed from the site and in the Spring it’s banks are covered with thousands of bluebells.

It’s a place a world apart from the rush and clutter of the modern holiday experience, with an atmosphere that makes you forget the world outside, and just lounge, ramble, or potter about.

Reception & Office opening times

Our reception and shop is open every day:

In the morning from 09.00hrs - 10.00hrs

In the afternoon from 15.00hrs - 16.00hrs.

• These hours will extend during busier periods.

If you arrive out with the reception opening times, please ring the bell at the barrier. This will put you through to the staff who will be able to remotely open the barrier for you. Alternatively you can phone: +44 (0)7 49 45 32 380.

Office hours:

Every day from 09:00-19:00hrs.

During office hours you can call staff for any of your queries.

Our pitches

Our large 12m x 7m hard-standing touring pitches are arranged sympathetically around the Site to allow for different views wherever you pitch up. Super pitches have 16 amp electric and, a grey waste drain and a dedicated water tap. All other pitches have 10 amp electricity, and a water tap is shared between two pitches. One hard-standing pitch situated near the toilet block is a dedicated disabled pitch.

The grass pitches are there for the smaller vehicles - roof tents, campervans, small motor homes are located overlooking the nature park and pond. A number of these pitches have electricity. Water taps are shared amongst the grass pitches. For non electric tent pitches you will be shown to a suitable spot.

Also new for 2020 is a dedicated ‘Nearly wild camping’ area. Situated slightly away from the other campers, sheltered behind a large hill offering a more relaxed feel for 4x4 vehicles and the likes while still being able to access toilet facilities if required.

Our Communal bothy / shelter

New for 2020 season is our communal bothy / shelter. Overlooking the pond and the ancient monument, you can enjoy sitting on the terrace or inside the bothy sheltering yourself from the wind and rain, or just come together to meet other guests. Outside the bothy, on the terrace is a steel bench where you can sit your stove to prepare your own meal.

Our children’s play park

We have two swings including a toddler swing, a slide and a climbing frame.

River walks & fishing

Barrow Campsite Nairn also offer a (dog)walking trail close to the banks of the river Nairn. From the premises of Kinchyle Farm, campsite visitors will be able to walk from the campsite along a nature trail bordering the river bank and open fields. This trail will go through strips of wild flowers that have been sown to encourage insects, birds and other wildlife. You can fish in the river Nairn but you require to purchase a fishing permit. There are weekly and daily permits available for sale at the campsite office.

Ancient monument

On Site is an ancient archaeological monument. This monument is locally known as 'Hangman's Cairn' and is an excellent example of a well-preserved Bronze Age Barrow and contemporary surrounding bank. The monument comprises a sub-circular mound, measuring around 25 m in diameter and standing to a height of around 3.3 m. (ancientmonuments.uk). With the opening of the campsite this monument will be immediately accessible to all campsite visitors. In the near future information boards will promote the wide awareness and significance of the history of this monument.  

Biker & bicycle and roof tent friendly

We welcome all guests including those who arrive on two wheels. As a passionate motorcycle and roof tent traveller, Ewan welcomes and understands the needs of fellow bikers. Can advise on local services and share memories and suggestions on local biking routes. Also Ewan is a passionate 4 wheel traveller and is delighted to welcome roof tents to the site. Just call to book in if you have any questions.
